Hello glove
collectors and baseball players, this is the Glovester a.k.a. Don Droke in
the hills of east Tennessee. I enjoy collecting old baseball gloves and
have a very nice collection of old vintage baseball equipment. I initially
specialized in the gloves made by Rawlings in the 1950’s, and now have
directed my attention to gloves from the 1880’s-1920’s. I prefer the
highest quality model glove made by the company. I admire the small
“postage stamp” tags, elaborate buttons and buckle back configurations
of these early gloves.
In collecting these gloves, I would often take them out to play catch, to see how it was done back in the day. Well, 50-60 year old laces do not hold up well and I ended up with a broken lace somewhere in the web or fingers, so it was time to relace the glove. One big problem, new laces just don’t look right in an old vintage glove. After trying a couple ideas, I have settled on two that work pretty well, depending on the glove and it level of past usage, I can replace the old laces and make the glove look like it was before they were broken.
